As part of the Art + Technology showcase at the Oosterpoort, I was selected from an open call (amongst two others) to realise my own project idea with the Noord Nederland Orkest.
During the performance I was sitting in the middle of the orchestra, receiving audio input of various instrument groups, which I was then feeding into Ableton, where I layered loops on top of loops and added both effects and granular synthesis until eventually only a drone sustains. Additionally, I was also feeding the signal back into itself to create a feedback loop that I tuned by spiking the EQ around 350Hz which is where the note F is in (this is the key of the piece that the NNO was playing, which is the 'Adagietto' from Mahler's 5th symphony. I was hoping to create a sensation of the technosublime, something overwhelming and hopefully awe-inspiring.
